Janey Storm freezes in the doorway.
Pen is half naked. Her boney, freckled shoulders and the faded sports bra she’s had since high school are on display. Bruises from this morning’s encounter with the Scorpion haven’t had time to heal yet—purples and sickly greens tesselate over her ribs and toned stomach.
Janey can see every unedited part of Pen: her open knuckles, blood a sharp red against her pale skin; her unbrushed hair, grown out past Pen’s jaw like a tangle of weeds; her loose jeans, slung low on her hips, with fraying ends and ripped knees. Janey stands there and sees Pen Parker, a half naked, wide-eyed girl choking on her heart.
“It’s occupied,” Pen manages.

Hell, he’d been the one who’d agreed, after all, when Johnny had pitched the idea on the top of the Statue of Liberty during their usual meet up on Christmas day.
Of course, when he’d said, 'Sure, Johnny, that sounds like fun', it had been sarcastic, but then he’d taken one look at the way Johnny’s face had lit up from the inside out, brighter than when he was covered in literal fire, and he hadn’t had the heart to tell him."

“Line of young men’s and infant “uncle-and-me” athleisure,” Johnny said, smiling. He held up the folder again. “I repeat: I have sketches.”
Sue smiled back, strained, and nodded.
“I don’t want to see them,” she said, raising her eyebrows meaningfully.
“Sue!” he protested. “It’s a great idea! Think of all the uncles out there who have been waiting for a line of functional yet comfortable athletic wear that they can match to their favorite niece or nephew!”
“And how many uncles, roughly, would that be?” Sue asked.
Johnny held up a hand.
“Admittedly,” he said, “we haven’t conducted market research yet.”

“Hey,” Peter said without opening his eyes. He buzzed with awareness – not quite spider-sense, but a pleasant alternative, the electric tingle of Johnny in bed next to him, the soft sound of his breath and the bonfire-faded, criminally expensive cologne scent of him. “You know I love you, right?”
Johnny breathed out, slow, and settled his head on Peter’s shoulder. “I love you.”
“Good,” Peter said, smiling.
Johnny flung an arm over Peter’s chest and Peter hummed sleepily, relaxing into his hold.
He woke up around sunrise to the pad of paws on the pillow, a two second warning before five pounds of fluff settled on top of his head and immediately started purring. A tail swished in his eye.
“I hate this,” Peter said without conviction.
--Peter accidentally gets Johnny a kitten.
