Yamato-taichō looked bewildered. Sakura imagined he was regretting his admission. He looked poised to say ‘no’, but before he did, a glint appeared in his eye and, slowly, a small smile spread on his lips. He glanced again towards the bar. It was swamped. No Kakashi-sensei to be found. He turned back towards the younger members of his team and placed a forearm on the table, leaning over it.
“So you wanna know what Kakashi-senpai’s face looks like, huh?” he slurred.
“Yes!” the three teenagers answered in unison. Sakura could hardly believe that they were about to find out after so many years. Yamato-taichō leaned in further.
“You really really really wanna know?” he asked, eyes flitting between their faces and the still-crowded bar.

After the war, Yamato has his team. He has Sai, who cooks and cements the bond between them all, his smile becoming more genuine by the day. He has Sakura, who makes sure they're healing, at least physically, and that they have each other's backs, for now and forever. He has Naruto, who's become something of a bigger, permanent fixture in Yamato's life as secret keeper and training companion. And, of course, he has Kakashi, in a way, if he could just stop avoiding him and his feelings.
He'll figure it out eventually, Yamato thinks, though he pretty much knows how it will end. In the mean time, he's got a forest to rebuild, an entirely new skill set to learn, and a life to recover.
