Summary
The trouble with Waterdeep was exactly what Gale had glibly told Shadowheart: that he knew with perfect clarity what he was returning to.
The sum of his life had been the sum of his dreams. That was all his home amounted to – an effigy to all the ideas that had ruined him. The shrine-to-be for all the hopes that had yet to sour. Facing up to it now left a pit at the bottom of his stomach.
or; Gale returns home and is faced with the harrowing challenge of figuring out his life and his new relationship, both of which are wrapped in difficult history

Shadowheart shoots a glance his way. "To kiss them."
"What?" Astarion exclaims, taken aback. "Disgusting! Who'd want a kiss from Gale, of all people? Probably feels like having an animal rub against your face."
Another glance from Shadowheart. "Thought about it, have you?"
The noise that leaves him is not kind. "Absolutely not, don't be ridiculous."
