Later, when Suletta helped change the bandages again, this time, her grip somehow felt too light. When they both went back to studying, each in her own space, Miorine's hands somehow felt empty, even though they hadn't been holding anything.
It was strange. It wasn't frightening, but Miorine just didn't understand what was going on. People only ever found new ways to hurt each other. They never took care of each other. They weren't capable of taking away another's pain like this. Only mothers did that. Or maybe lovers.
Or: Miorine has a pride fight against a tomato plant (and the tomatoes win).
