“Round preparations complete. Now entering: champions of the Occupation.”
On cue, the floor beneath their hovering platform flickered. Solid black with a smattering of glowing spots lightened into translucent glass. Below the surface, a sea of yellow light lines grew brighter and brighter as more programs than Wemmbu could count were brought up on a lift that spanned the length of the entire floor of the arena. For a moment, the flickering floor became a permeable wall of light as the army of sentries phased through. It re-rezzed solid beneath their boots, and the soldiers slammed their light staffs against the reformed glass in unison with a digitized war-cry.
“Oh… my User,” Flame breathed with a nervous laugh.
“It’s just a wall of programs,” Wemmbu agreed, torn between awe and genuine concern. He had never seen so many programs in one place before. Not even the crowd in the stands came close to the number of occupation soldiers down there.
Speaking of the crowd, they were going nuts.
“Ready… Begin.”

What do you do if you're a street kid, living off of, well, the streets and surviving only by mere chance? You get a gun and threaten the first random adult you come across into serving as your parent, ap-parent-ly (haha). Xisuma was not expecting to be backed into a corner by an avian boy, let alone be threatened into babysitting said boy, when he was returning home from work.
Well, it's not that bad of an arrangement.

Summary
The Coastal Laboratory for Abnormal Wildlife Studies has found themselves in possession of a live, captive, and dangerous siren—something previously unheard of in the scientific community. Doc, one of their top researchers, is assigned leadership of the study on Specimen 9201223, later nicknamed ‘Martyn’.
Over the course of the project’s run, he and the siren develop an intense rivalry that eventually mellows into a far more complex relationship, as Doc discovers that Martyn is far more human than they’d initially assumed.
Unfortunately, the rest of the organization does not have the siren’s best interests at heart. As Doc grows closer to Martyn, he finds himself forced into increasingly-risky decisions in the name of protecting him, trying to prove his humanity to people who only see a monster.
