Summary
Carlos's reaction to the first date involves a lot more anguished cries than Cecil's, though to be fair, they're only anguished cries of "Why did I do that, why did I say that, why am I allowed to interact with other people" so they're still better than at least eighty percent of Night Vale's late night wails.

“Just let me, Virgil, I’ll be the boy,” Sloane mumbles, almost as if she isn’t fully aware that she’s saying it, and you feel yourself get impossibly sore between your legs as that buzzes in your ear.
You don’t even fully think it before it comes out of your mouth, “can we both be boys?”
Hands grab your wrists and yank them down, holding them to your sides. You try to fight it, to be able to hide away from this situation you just created, but her grip is too tight. You can’t do anything but look right at Sloane, at her ski-slope nose and strangely soft expression that you’ve never seen her wear before. Her short hair is fanning out around her temples as she leans over you.

Not fault of his, certainly. No, the real issue was the fact that there was only so much he could do with what limitations and odd restrictions he had to deal with. While he didn’t fully understand why his employers had barred him from continuing to perfect his new Medi-Gun’s ÜberCharge, he knew better than to outright break the few regulations they’d been given.

“You want me to do what?” the civilian asked disbelievingly, and Scar’s body language shifted to that of an impatient trainer, one whose fuse was running short. It was a precursor to bad things, like being tased or forced onto a treadmill for hours; Mumbo flinched even knowing it was an act, and the civilian cut off with a squeak, so Mumbo knew he felt the same way.
Or possibly that was the gun. Scar having a gun seemed more likely as an explanation, now that Mumbo thought of it.
Stealing the car would be better, but they had no idea where they were going, and neither of them was familiar with road laws. What if they hit a person while driving? What if there was some sort of kill switch in the car that the owner could flip to blow it up with them inside? Anti-villain tech had to be wild, from what the Foundation had on hand– and they were villains now for sure. Not just for defying the Foundation, but for this. Heroes didn’t take the actions he and Scar were taking.

Two of them start to take it a little further than anticipated, but what else would you expect, from a relapsing cannibalistic cat and a death-bound, murderous, crazy crow?
