Well, it might sound a bit ridiculous, but how is that Buck hasn't heard about it until now? He’s a bit annoyed by this fact. Buck loves loving, and if there’s an excuse to kiss his friends he wants to know all about it.

That jolts Eddie back to the reality of the class. Seven pairs of eyes are pinning him to the whiteboard, mischievous smiles all around.

It's in no way the first time a kid gets interested in Eddie's private life. Normally it's the younger kids the ones who ask about a wife or a girlfriend, the older ones know Chris or at least have heard of him so they just assume that Eddie has a wife. No one corrects them.

Eddie could honestly use a break.
Picture this. You come from war —from another realm, no less!— changed, somehow less you, less human, but still you, it’s your reflection in the mirror, it’s your son recognizing your features and calling you ‘daddy’. Of course it’s you, who else? A week passes, you are back home, trying to get used to normalcy, you haven’t even tried to think of what’s your next career path, because you sure as hell aren’t getting involved in another holy war for a deity you don’t even care about anymore, your oaths broken, forgotten, and buried under the roots of a tree of brilliant silver glow.
Eddie runs away with his son looking for nothing and, instead, finds a family —and, just perhaps, something more. Maybe they can help him figure out what is going on with himself. Maybe he didn't lose everything.

Summary
Before Eddie can react, something cold clicks shut around his wrist. He glances down in disbelief to see a gleaming golden cuff locked tight against his skin, the other clasped around Buck’s wrist with a short length of chain connecting them.
Eddie jerks his head up to Buck, silently demanding help, but Buck looks just as lost.
“Uh—no, sir, take this off,” Buck stammers, tugging uselessly at the cuff.
“Nope,” the man says cheerfully, shaking his head.
Or; On a call, a weird man decides to handcuff Eddie and Buck together. They then have to spend the rest of their shift connected.

“Those couldn’t’ve been cheap,” Eddie says. “Do we need to talk about your spending habits?”
Buck lets out a soft huff of laughter. “What are you, the flower police?”
“No, no,” Eddie says, shaking his head, his hair brushing against the side of Buck’s face. “If you wanna spend your hard earned money on fancy ass flowers, I’m not gonna stop you.” He nuzzles into Buck’s neck, his stubble scratching against his skin.
“It’s nice,” he says, his voice muffled. “No one’s ever bought me flowers before.”
Buck copes with unrequited love by maladaptive daydreaming, buying Eddie flowers, and lying to the farmers market vendor about his imaginary husband.

They were trapped.
Fire hadn’t broken through yet, but it was coming. Buck could feel the heat pushing in, wrapping around them like a warning. The smoke thickened, clawing at their throats, painting the walls with a haze of panic.
“So…” Eddie’s voice cut through the haze, rough around the edges but maddeningly calm. “You wanna talk about it now?”
Buck turned slowly, disbelief etched across every exhausted line of his face, and he hoped his deadpan glare said it all. He didn’t need to ask what Eddie was referring to.
No, he didn’t want to talk about how he accidentally told his best friend he loved him just hours earlier.
He’d rather let the fire take him.
