Izzy lets him, his face still framed by Ed’s hands. They stand like breathing statues, oddly quiet and absorbed in each other.
Stede feels a sudden surge of want at their display of devotion and trust, the silent rapport Ed and Izzy share that comes from years upon years of learning each other and being each other’s closest confidant.
How a single touch, a single word from Ed is enough to enrapture Izzy so entirely that he lets a stranger, a man he barely seems to tolerate half of the time, touch him so intimately, let himself be seen so vulnerable around.
Stede realizes he might be more invested in Izzy than he thought. He just is not sure if Izzy is similarly invested in him.

Three days later Ed is splashing about in the bath that Stede had drawn for him, letting Stede braid his hair into a fancy crown when he mumbles, “Say. This might sound crazy, properly daft in fact, but- did you ask Izzy to let you watch us?”
“Er,” Stede says.
“Because I- I don’t know about that, mate. The things we do down below…don’t know as I want you to see them. Probably best left down there, yeah?”
Very gently, Stede pins Ed’s hair into place and then presses his fingertips in a fan along his scruffy cheeks, tipping his head back enough that Stede can kiss his forehead. “I disagree,” he murmurs. “In fact, I think it’s time to erase this separation, hm? No more above and below, in here or out there. I accept every part of you, Edward Teach, and that includes Blackbeard!”
“Hm,” is all Ed responds with.

His eyes flicker down to Stede’s chest again.

It’s mesmerizing watching them together. Edward’s rough hands, so gentle as they smooth over Stede’s freckled shoulders. He touches Stede like he’s scared he’ll break under his hands. He’s never touched Izzy like that, never held onto him like he’s something he cherishes, something he holds dear. The thought should make Izzy angry and jealous. Should make him want to leave, ending this whole confusing thing right here and now. Instead, his skin feels like a lightning storm, and he breathes heavily, unable to tear his eyes off the scene in front of him.
Stede and Ed invite Izzy into their bedroom. Shameless smut.
