Summary
This is an interlude / short story between The Friendly Necromancer books 1 and 2. It can be read without having read the rest of The Friendly Necromancer.
Often called 'old souls of the forest', the Bulbasaur line is known for the deep connection they form with the land. They establish migratory paths which are followed for centuries and passed down from parent to child. They cultivate and tend to the plant life along their paths, ensuring long term health and fertility of the land they pass through. And on Kenomao Island their care for the land continues even past their lives as Venusaurs, beyond death itself.
Follow Urskog's life as a baby Bulbasaur trailing alongside her mother, as an adolescent Ivysaur exploring the world, and as a Venusaur with children of her own. See the world through her eyes, and the humans who come to her island and all the changes they make - for better and for worse.

Summary
Lea dreamed of leaving her home in Petalburg and going on an adventure. She wanted to see everything the world had to offer, overcome the hardest trials Hoenn could throw at her, and stand at the top among friends, rivals, and peers. She wanted a team of Pokemon that could stand against all of that, and she's wanted that for years.
She wanted to go on a journey.
Her dream has been on hold for two years. Lea has worked her ass off to help her sister keep their departed Mother's bakery afloat, and the store was starting to feel like a prison cell, from which there was no escape. Her best friend was getting ready to leave home on her own journey, and despite being happy for her, the coming shared birthday felt like a nightmare made real, of a dream being lost for good.
Lea's sister decided to give her the best birthday present she could, and fired her, effective immediately.

Mercury is an unlikely survivor of a series of experiments to accomplish exactly that. A project failure kept and trained as a weapon, she was recently rescued by the Pokémon League and returned to as normal a life as someone with her background could have. Which is to say, not very. Left with severe alterations to both her body and mind, she finds adjusting to human life rather difficult. Perhaps a normal journey as a Pokémon trainer will be exactly what she needs... or perhaps it will go catastrophically wrong.
