Summary
Shouto was used to having his choices made for him.
Arguably, it was the one thing his father prepared him for.
Thanks to that, he was possibly the least outwardly disappointed of all his classmates when they were informed they would have their careers for the Alternative Job Week assigned by a special analyst the UA contracted.
Though, if he was being honest, “fireman” was certainly not something he would have picked for himself. He hadn’t even known such a position existed! It sounded more like something his father would have picked for his hero name if his current head of PR didn’t scout him out the second he stepped foot in UA.
In any case: here he was, in front of the fire station, about to meet with the fire brigade he was going to spend the next week with.
His first impression of the place was pretty simple: nothing was on fire.

“You don’t know what I was going to ask,” Clark said with a hint of a smile. “Maybe I just wanted to congratulate you on catching the Film Freak.”
Bruce gave him a flat look.
“Or maybe I think I can help.”
“With a case of vandalism?”
Clark stepped in front of him. “It’s not vandalism and you know it, detective.”
“And what makes you say that?”
“If it were vandalism it would be something a lot more juvenile. To the point. It wouldn’t claim there were seventeen missing kids. That’s public outcry.”
“Is that so?”
“That and I tried to do a story on the growing number of homeless children last month and I got shut down. According to the last count, the numbers have been decreasing, but there’s been no change in policies, no extra funding to CPS, or shelters, or even an increase in the number of inmates in the juvenile detention center. So where are they going?”
Detective Bruce Wayne may have the highest solve rate in Gotham, but if he wants to solve this case, he’ll need the help of an elusive street kid, and while Dick Grayson always lands on his feet, he usually lands himself right into trouble.
