    Summary

“Congratulations. I think that might be the stupidest idea you’ve ever had.” Mu Qing sounds… pissed off, yeah, but not as pissed off as Feng Xin thought he would be. Mostly, he sounds wary. “You want to—to kiss me again?”

    Yes. More than anything.

Out loud, Feng Xin says, “I just don’t want you holding a bad kiss over my head for the rest of eternity. Are you gonna let me make this up to you or are you gonna be a little bitch about it?”

    --

Feng Xin accidentally steals Mu Qing’s first kiss. Naturally, the only logical solution is to give him another one. And another. And another. And another. And—

    Summary

To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.

    He comes close, though.

By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.

What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.

“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”

Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.

    Summary

“Hannibal.” Alana says, her voice breaking on his name. It brings his attention back to her, and now he finds grief so powerful it hits him right against his ribcage. “Hannibal… It’s been days. I don’t think they’re going to find Will’s…” She pauses to swallow against the tears. “You didn’t kill him. I know you didn’t. But I don’t think he’s alive.”

“Will Graham is resilient.” He bites back, though the first strings of doubt are starting to creep across his senses, no matter how hard he tries to push them down. He looks away, not wanting to see her heartbroken expression. “He is resourceful and clever, and stronger than you believe.”

There’s another pregnant pause before she speaks again. “You were a psychiatrist, Hannibal. You know what the stages of grief are. You’re in denial.”
