Her left hand is stuffed in her pocket, wrapped securely around her pocket knife in case of need.
About fifteen seconds after her initial knock, a light turns on near the back of the house, flooding just enough of the building for her to see it.
Her breath comes out opaque before her, a testament to just how cold it is and just how much of a stupid idea this trek was.
Regardless, it's still too late, and unsafe, to turn back now.
Twenty-six seconds after the knocking, the front door opens.
