Summary
Alex is about to call it a day, and a wasted one at that, when he sees a fancy looking man wandering in front of his booth. The neatly coiffed blond hair and plaid blazer are a sight for sore eyes, compared to Alex’s own disheveled state. Alex pastes on his best customer service smile, and catches the man’s attention.
“Hi, welcome. Can I interest you in some beautiful homegrown flowers?”
The man approaches carefully. Alex takes it as an encouragement to go on.
“Maybe these spiky purple ones? Or some tiny white ones? I even got some…uh…. wannabe sunflowers?”
The man has fully stepped up to the booth now, smirking like he has a secret Alex isn’t in on.
“Somewhere, a botanist rolls over in his grave,” Fancy Pants says. British, go figure. Alex can’t say he’s surprised. The blazer in this weather should have tipped him off.
OR, reluctant gardener Alex meets plant aficionado Henry. Something blooms.

“Yes, well, I’m afraid I can’t let you do that,” Henry answers, still fidgeting with his bag and exchanging looks with the rental booth guy.
“Come on, it will only take a minute and then you’ll have all the time you need,” Alex tries to maintain his patience.
“Excuse me, you arrived here in a tizzy and demanded to cut in line. I am simply trying to explain to you that that won’t be happening, as I will be taking the last available jet ski.”
“The what now? How is that possible?” Alex turns to the booth. The guy occupying it looks like he’s barely eighteen and in no way on top of the supply and demand situation on a beautiful, sunny day in mid-August.
“Sorry, dude,” the guy mutters, “we’re just all out, nothing I can do.”
OR, Alex has some damage control to do, but a certain blonde has other plans.

Henry bristles, the words striking a nerve. “I gave you my answer,” he says, jutting his chin out defensively. “I’m sorry you wasted your trip here.”
He’s about halfway to the door by the time she speaks again.
“He needs you, Henry.”
Henry freezes.
