Penelope could feel him.
She always had been able to. She’d feel those prickly feelings, the slow burn starting from her belly running outwards, all the way through her fingertips and her toes. It was magnetic and for a long time, it took her by surprise. Not anymore. It was just a part of who she was. Who they were.
When it happened, Penelope would scan the room. And sure enough, she would always find him, searing into her soul with his piercing eyes. Sometimes a smile would accompany it or a friendly wave. Other times, it was just heat, radiating off him and brandishing her body.
It still happens now. Even within their broken marriage, she could feel him.
