Summary
When Akira sees Akechi again in Shibuya, a whole year after the collapse of the false reality, it is a surprise to literally no one when he immediately chases him down. It's still not a surprise when it happens again, and again, and again. It's even less of a surprise when the two decide to make a game out of it.
It's round three; the game is on. And as if Akira would let his rival slip away from him again this time.
[or, the inherent romanticism in playing cat and mouse with your rival who thought you were dead, except from the pov of said rival, with the addition of his merry band of friends.]

“Find someone else.”
It takes a second for Akira to understand, but once he does, his answer is immediate. “There is no one else.”
The laughter that chokes its way out of Goro’s throat is pained, almost maniacal. “Are you blind? You’re surrounded by people who will drop everything if it means having a chance with you. You could be happy with anyone else in your life, Joker.”
“I don’t want any of them. I’ve made my choice a long time ago. You know this.”

Morbidly curious, Goro reached out, pushing a hand through Ren’s hair. Ren only shivered.
“Well,” Goro whispered, withdrawing. “Well.”
So, he was dead. He was lingering. He supposed that he was panicking, that he was floundering, that he was perhaps even dissociating, but could one experience any of those things, truly, if one were dead?
When reality returns to normal, Akechi haunts the living.
