Clorinde’s head turned to look at the man on the ground. She still couldn't really see him; the woman was blocking him, but that name. No one had that name.
Wriothesley.
She didn’t realize she said it aloud until the woman turned her head towards Clorinde. She quickly looked away so she wouldn’t get caught staring.
If it was him, she doubted he remembered her, anyway.
The woman made some sort of noise of recognition. “Hey, Wrio, that girl kind of looks that picture of yours.” She said it so loudly that Clorinde instinctively turned back around just in time to see the man hit his head against the wall as he apparently moved too fast to look at her.

Navia nodded. “She isn’t feeling well.”
Wriothesley was disappointed, of course, but that didn’t sound concerning. “Okay, did you think she was lying?”
“Oh, Archons, no, I saw her. She was really sick. That was the problem.” Navia paused, taking a sip of tea. “You know Clorinde, she usually never let anyone see her sick or let it change her routine even if it made it worse. So imagine my surprise when she asked me to cancel your date. Clo would’ve dragged herself down here sick as a dog.”
He tried to take a sip of his own cup of tea to distract himself, because what Navia was saying was, in fact, concerning.
Navia grimaced at him. “It gets worse though.”
“Worse?”
“She called off work.”
Oh, that was…oh, that was bad. He must’ve faltered in hiding his own concern because Navia gestured towards him.
“My feelings exactly.“

“I’m not afraid of dancing,” Clive answered quickly, but he paused momentarily. “Dancing with someone might be a little different, though.”
“It is a little bit different, yes. Have you had lessons?”
“Of course,” he grunted.
“And did you practice with a partner?”
“Yes, it’s a little hard to practice when your partner is much shorter than you and is also your little brother who keeps giggling at everything.”
Jill tried to cover her mouth before she laughed again. “I think I would have liked to see that.”
Clive snorted, but he was at least smiling a little again. “I’m sure you would have.”

“Why don’t you run me through tonight’s plans?” Sylus says as he helps you into the car. “Since you’re my assistant now.”
“Arrival in fifteen, shake hands, and get an invite to cocktail party at eight,” you go down the list on your fingers after you buckle yourself in. “Mingle until we’re either invited to a backroom or someone can give us a name. And then we kick their asses.”
Sylus chuckles. He keeps his eyes on the road as he drives, shifting gear with one hand, the other lazily on the steering wheel. It’s effortlessly hot, and it annoys you a great deal. “There might be a few steps in between intelligence gathering and ass-kicking, but you got the gist of it. You are?”
“Your overworked assistant,” you say.
“Overworked?” Sylus asks, amused. “I don’t remember this being part of the script.”
“I’m simply trying to portray my role as realistically as possible.”
You moonlight as Sylus’ assistant. Things go a little differently than planned.

She was chewing her lip again and he found it endlessly amusing. Behind her, the twins were standing so rigidly and so unlike their usual selves it made him want to laugh because he has certainly trained them better than this. He wouldn’t call any of them out on it though.
After all, if he revealed that he suspected something now, the game would end.
“You’re right,” said Sylus, finally dropping the scarf on her head. “I must have missed it.”
The hunter and the twins have been acting strange since the beginning of April. For their sake, and for his own amusement, Sylus pretends not to notice.
