sonic watches shadow sleep.
when the wachoski family find shadow and bring him home to nurse him to health, the family is quickly reminded of the awkwardness after the recent events.. and sonic is overcome with the urge to watch shadow like a hawk (or an owl) as he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt again. also… did he mention these new nightmares? he couldn’t sleep a wink anyways.
shadow is feeling guilty for taking up space in the home, and is angry at sonic for being so forgiving. he wants sonic to be angry, hurt… but sonic wants him around, accepts him with open arms.
shadow doesn’t know how to handle that.

He certainly doesn't need anyone relying on him. These allies are temporary- simply an advantage to have- there are no attachments there.

The problem was that there was nothing remotely funny about the way his heart would flutter at the sound of his voice. About how the world would brighten up a little bit when Sonic caught a glimpse of those familiar black spines. About how Sonic has been dreaming about his eyes, his smile. Sonic has been dreaming about them.
No, this was anything but a joke to Sonic. This was serious.

Sonic has come to terms with the fact that he has maybe, slightly, a tiny bit of feelings for Shadow. Now, he just has to figure out if his rival feels the same. With Sonic’s irresistible charm and charisma, he’s sure it won’t be too hard. Right?
