Summary
The Darkling uses merzost once again, though this time he just wants to make something good, something for him. He succeeds. Baghra finds the result of his experiments and decides that he can never know that he has created a son. So, she sends the boy away, and he grows up far away from any thoughts of Grisha, the Little Palace, or even Ravka itself.
Until sixteen years later, when one Kaz Brekker (the adopted son of the Rietvelds, though no one knew that particular detail about him) takes on a job to kidnap the Sun Summoner, and he and his crew find themselves in Ravka. Things start to get a little more complicated from there.

Summary
While planning an undercover mission to infiltrate the Dime Lions, Wylan offers himself up as bait, knowing that he's the only one unknown to the rival gang. Kaz refuses to let him go - telling him he doesn't think he'll be any good at pretending because of his awkward personality. Except, Wylan does know how to play pretend, because he has been pretending his whole life.
When Wylan falls into a meltdown, Jesper helps him to see that there is nothing wrong with having a brain like his, and Wylan starts to see that being who he is is enough - and he doesn't have to pretend anymore.
