    For six seasons, the Formula 1 paddock is convinced George Russell is painfully, impressively single.

    Then he walks in holding hands with a woman in a plain white shirt, denim shorts and scuffed Adidas sneakers and the narrative detonates.

     

    Max Verstappen doesn’t look like a WAG.
    Doesn’t act like one and doesn’t seem remotely impressed by the chaos she’s just caused.
    George, meanwhile, is doing his best to balance a championship campaign with the sudden realization that the entire world has Opinions about his girlfriend.

    As cameras linger, narratives spiral and assumptions pile up, one thing becomes clear: Formula 1 has no idea what to do with Max Verstappen and she’s perfectly fine with that.

     

     

    “Are you nervous?” George asks, his thumb brushing over her knuckles as he laces their fingers together.

    “No.” Max said honestly. Then, after a beat:
    “I just didn’t realize I was a rare species or that you’d apparently discovered me in the wild.”

    George laughs under his breath.
