Summary
They’re quiet, then, breathing in each other’s exhaled air and exchanging it with their own. It would be romantic, if it was 1985. If Steve hadn’t yet known the feeling of taking a punch by a man trained to throw them. If Steve was still a puppet of a person, too big for the body he was born into yet too small to try to crawl out of it.
But it’s not, of course. It’s 1987, and he still sees the swirls of the Starcourt ceiling when he closes his eyes. It’s 1987, and he still cries when Back To The Future comes on.
It’s 1987, and his best friend is leaving for college in the morning.

She huffs, frustrated, bouncing on her feet with anger, a teenager again. An annoyed teenager, at that. God, no wonder she and Dustin are friends.
"It's not that. It's... Lucas said... Lucas said you helped him train. For his basketball trials last year."
