Summary
They watch a Christmas movie JJ’s never seen before, the kind with way too much snow, actors who look like they’ve never been cold a day in their lives, and a happy ending you can clock from a million miles away. When it gets late, Big John glances toward the window, where rain has started tapping hard against the glass. JJ follows his gaze and thinks, Hopefully snow later. Not for the magic of it—he’s learned better than that—but so he can pack a handful (probably more) down John B’s shirt and make him squeal like a wounded seagull.
“You staying over?” Big John asks, voice rough but casual, like it’s no bigger a deal than when he asked JJ earlier if he wanted seconds.
Or, in other words, this is my Secret Santa prompt for the beloved Stupidthingsgoodoutcomes, where JJ learns throughout the years that Christmas belongs to the people who care enough to stay; and yes, very goofy, very co-dependent Jaybe energy coming right at you!

Summary
“He’s just really sunny. Like, everything feels better when he’s around. But he doesn’t get a lot of… good stuff. Not like we do. And I think he needs someone to love him. I just… I love him. A lot.”
Pope looked thoughtful, then shrugged. “That’s okay. You can like whoever you want. I think it’s nice.”
John B nodded, the tight feeling in his chest easing a little. He didn’t have the right words for what he felt—not yet—but he knew it mattered.
Even in third grade, it mattered.
OR
An intimate exploration of John B’s attempts to understand and define the profound connection he feels with JJ over the years.

Summary
He still didn’t totally get why he cared so much—why he kept looking for signs JJ was okay. But maybe he did know. Because no one deserved to come home to the kind of shit JJ did.
Not even a guy he barely knew.
So he knocked.
OR
John B, newly evicted and lonelier than he wants to admit, moves into 2A—right next door to JJ Maybank in 2B, a classmate he barely knows. But thin walls and the angry voice of JJ’s father, Luke, make it harder and harder to pretend he doesn’t hear what’s really going on—and even harder to stay a stranger.

Summary
John B’s always noticed JJ’s firsts—the quiet ones no one else sees. The first time he told the truth without flinching. The first time he reached out, not because he was in pain, but because he wanted to. They’re small things, easy to miss. But to John B, they mean everything. Because each one is JJ letting himself be known. Letting himself be loved.
OR
Years later, John B writes those first down—the quiet turning points that made them who they are now.

Summary
TK and Carlos take a pilgrimage to New York that includes a night on the legendary Fire Island, where TK is determined to make up for some previous party-day mistakes. They befriend an older couple who open their eyes to what gay life was like decades ago – and why it matters now.
***
They walk a fair way down the beach, creating a distance between them and the hamlet of bars and beach rentals where guys are milling about. Carlos chooses a secluded spot within a beautiful swathe of grassy sand dunes, freshly whipped by the earlier weather. He takes the towels out of their bag and places them neatly over the sand while TK gazes up at the silver coin moon. He lowers himself down onto a towel, wishing he was better at naming constellations.
TK shuffles so he can sit between Carlos’ legs and lean back. The temperature has dropped again and it’s nice to feel Carlos wrapped around him as the sea breeze blows. He relaxes against Carlos’ heartbeat and feels at peace, but sad. The sky above them is so beautiful. He imagines all the men who danced beneath it decades ago for the last time – thinking they’d be back the next year, and the next – how many of them never made it back at all?Bookmarked by May_39898

Summary
“Hey,” he says as he leans against the doorway to a bedroom upstairs, Jonah’s room, in fact, where his husband is currently painting the walls green, like Jonah wanted. Carlos is pleased with that; it somewhat fits the theme they’re aiming for, but TK knows he would’ve painted it any color Jonah wanted.
“Hey,” Carlos replies as he continues painting. “Have you finally come to help?”
TK smiles. “Thought I might just enjoy the view.”
Carlos scoffs. “To no one’s surprise.”

Summary
It feels like it’s been such a long time, that he’s been sat here in this plastic chair. Watching nurses and doctors buzzing in and out, watching the appropriately apologetic detective slink into the room and ask Carlos a series of far too many questions, watching Carlos’s mother fussing over him and demanding water and snacks and more pillows. TK wants – needs, longs, aches – to gather his battered fiancé into his arms, and he can’t do that while so many people are still here hovering.
