    He checks his phone again. 8:28, and people have long since stopped staring, returning to their wine and pasta.
    But Buck isn’t leaving. Not until the owners kick him out. Even then, he doesn’t plan to leave the block until he sees or hears from Eddie.

    The former happens at 8:31. Eddie rushes into the restaurant, clearly out of breath and tense as he breezes past the host. When he spots Buck, he relaxes a little, and Buck does the same. Until he catches a glimpse of Eddie’s hand…and the droplets of blood staining his eggplant-colored shirt.

    Eddie doesn’t give Buck time to react as he plops down in the chair across from him and sighs heavily. “Sorry I’m late, I just beat the shit out of your ex.”
