His mark was for the Doctor. The Doctor was the person he’d been made for – and the Doctor had been made for him, in return.
He should probably be panicking about that, some deep-buried part of himself was saying. About his soulmate being another man – of a sort, anyway – or about him being an alien, or about him being the Doctor. But there was none of that. Just a bright, suffusing warmth, spreading from that tug at the pit of his stomach all through the rest of his body. He’d already known, in a way, if he couldn’t have put words to it.
Who else was it ever going to be?
Jamie has always known that the soulmark on his arm isn't normal. When he realises the strange shapes are actually the Doctor's name, everything seems to be falling into place. But the Doctor's people have no soulmates, and his arm is bare where it should have a mark to match Jamie's. His feelings are unrequited, simple and crushing as that.
Except nothing is ever really simple, with the Doctor. And soulmark or no soulmark, Jamie starts thinking he might just have a chance.

“What’re you doing here?” Newt asks bitterly.
Making sure you’re not seriously hurt,” Hermann answers and this cannot be right, because he reaches for Newt’s hand like he has any right at all to touch him.or Newt doesn't remember.

Summary
The Doctor spun to a halt, turning to face Jamie. His hands were pressed palm-to-palm in front of his chest, steepled against his breastbone. Eyes blown wide, he drew in a deep breath, and Jamie couldn’t help but copy him as he scanned his wide eyes.
“Would you marry me, Jamie?” the Doctor said, just a little too loud.
For a moment, Jamie could only stare, his mouth opening and closing like it was sounding out the Doctor’s words, trying to fit them into a sort of sense. When at last they slotted into place, he sprung to his feet as if a jolt of electricity had arced through the mattress. Heat was stinging through his cheeks, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the Doctor.
“Wh -” The word caught in his throat. “Why?”
When one of the Doctor and Jamie's adventures lead them to get married, they brush it off as a funny story, something they'll forget soon enough. But somehow they keep telling people they're married, again and again.
The only problem is, they're not actually together. Even if Jamie wishes they were.
