They'd stopped now, in the middle of the Aftcastle, people still coming and going around them, headed for the Siren or the Kraken's Arms or the Hyaline or the various guilds or perhaps the Maelstrom Barracks or even just the Wench. But Veronyka had eyes only for Vamp, this woman from another world who had come home with her, who had been accepted into her life, fitting in so easily even though she was from another world that had almost been destroyed, from the future and yet not. The one who fate had seen fit to deliver to her.
