Summary
William and Joyce Price didn't worry overly much when, after elementary school one day, little Chloe brought home an imaginary friend. When "Max" stuck around well into middle school, however, William started getting concerned. Concerned enough to get Chloe a therapist. And when William died in a horrible car crash just weeks later, Joyce decided keeping Chloe in therapy was probably for the best. Now years of counseling later, Chloe has come to terms with the fact her best friend never existed. That is, of course, until Max shows up again. And Chloe's week is only going to get stranger.

The same promise she demanded each and every time when it all came to ruin. She reached up with the hand coated in Zoey's blood and grasped the threads of the Honmoon. Then she did the same with Rumi's blood.

I don’t want to, Rumi thinks. It’s against my will. I’m a prisoner of my own misery. If the world ended for good, I would welcome it.
But that’s not entirely true. No, if the world ended for good, it would take Zoey and Mira with it. And Rumi’s existence may be a horrible thing, but Zoey and Mira deserve so much more. They deserve to live and grow old together, to be happy, to live their lives however they please after they’ve given up so much to protect the Honmoon.
“I’d do anything for them,” Rumi says. “Even if it tears me apart by the seams.”

Mira had to keep reminding herself that the blood on Rumi’s chest was from her own arm, not from an injury Rumi had—especially with the way Rumi kept whimpering. She hoped she hadn't done any real damage. She hadn't been trying to hurt her.

Then, quietly, she hears Zoey ask, “How long?”
Well. This is harder than them just killing her, Rumi thinks. Maybe she shouldn’t be surprised, because Zoey has always enjoyed the hunt, performing each fight like it’s a sort of game of cat-and-mouse, and this is...the same thing, Rumi thinks. Just another demon to be dealt with.
“Rumi,” Mira presses, her voice closer than it had been.
Rumi almost wants to laugh. Great. The world’s worst cat-and-mouse game, where they’re apparently treating her like a friend before they kill her. That’s great. Celine would be so proud that they’re fulfilling all their hunter duties of taking care of each other while killing demons.
“Rumi, I need you to talk to me,” Zoey says, her voice getting a little more insistent. “Can you tell me how long you’ve had these?”
“Forever,” Rumi rasps out, because, well, they’ve caught her. She’s been effortlessly caught in a trap, and there’s no use trying to gnaw off her own arm to escape it. She’s tried before; her patterns exist beyond just branding on her skin.

Summary
But the texture of the couch under her sweating palms scratched violently at something that had always been loose in Rumi’s mind. Something in her fingers clung to the ease of hiding next to these two women. Something wanted to howl but was so deeply buried all it could do was bite at its own flesh. Frustration was clawing at the back of the empty hollow feeling. Normally couch time helped. Normally the laughter started to fill her up again. It gave Rumi something to hold onto until she wasn’t drowning.

She writes down a full set of instructions to herself, to address any emergency situation where her patterns get exposed. It’s hidden deep inside the tower, but if she’s gotta run away, she can grab it on the way out.

5. Her favorite snack was shrimp crackers.Zoe chewed on her pen, eyebrows furrowed. She hadn't wanted to believe that she could have missed this, or that one of her closest friends could have lied to her for so long, but with everything written down and laid out like this, the evidence was irrefutable:

Mira sat up and peered at Rumi. Rumi didn't like that look; it felt uncomfortably like she could see right through her, like she could just tell Rumi wasn't asking an idle question. She was about to walk the question back, to change the topic, something, when Mira's eyes widened. Oh no—this was it; Rumi was done for.
“Oh my God,” said Mira. She narrowed her eyes and pointed an accusing finger at Rumi “You're thinking about having cute babies with that Saja Boy!”

Summary
What if, instead of just glimpsing gold at their performance of “How It’s Done”, they turned the entire Honmoon gold. They did jump out of a plane without parachutes after all, it's hard to beat that.
Unfortunately, the golden Honmoon did NOT rid Rumi of her patterns.
Now Rumi has a few things on her checklist.
One: Confront Celine. The patterns aren't gone like she said they would be.
Two: Tell her girls. Now that her only hope of getting rid of her patterns has been dashed, they need to know. If these marks are permanent, she can't hide them from Mira and Zoey forever.
Three: Tell Bobby, hopefully with help from her girls. If the patterns keep spreading like they have her whole life, eventually clothing isn't going to be able to hide them. Bobby is the only one she can trust to help her do damage control.
As usual, things never go to plan.
