It had been hard to keep the destination of the trip from Collie, but it was wildly easy to convince him to drop four days of classes to spend fifty-two hours in a car with seven other boys, round trip.
They've been in the car for five and a half hours so far, and Art is realizing it was kind of a bad idea. It's been fun, don't get him wrong, and it's worth it for Collie, but he fears something will boil over in the next few hours.
"Is there a single city in this damn state?" Collie asks eventually. There it is.

“Why?” He felt Will squeeze his hand in response, but it seemed the smaller man wasn’t as worried as Mike.

She checks again, and yeah, Will is holding a stuffed bear, not a cat. The beloved Tiggy stays firmly attached to his bag, so they aren’t playing with tigers, either.
“So they go back down the mountain, and now all the village people are asking them about the crystal, and Rory is sad thinking they didn’t get it that whole time, but then–”
“Meow. Meow,” Will declares, removing the teddy from the dinosaur’s back and making it do some sort of interpretive dance.

His gut wrenches with it, aches to grasp at Eren’s stupid, tattered jacket and shout at him, beg and plead for another way. To trample the world flat, to singe and ravage and maul; that was forgivable. Reasonable. Understandable. The monster that Armin had come to know was destined for it.
To leave Armin behind was another matter entirely. Eren would never. The Eren he used to know would never.
And yet, he did. He is.
