Summary
Of course it is a mistake.
Shanks knows it the second the idea forms.
The moment it is first uttered out loud into deafening silence.
No matter how much information they will have at their disposal,
no matter how grande their advantage will be through simple relation-Of course it is a mistake to present himself on a silver platter.
But every word he uttered to Shanks,
every picture he painted, gruesome and unforgiving,
every truth he shouted with hate born of abysmal pain rooted deep in his bones-Shanks knows his words to be true.

Summary
“Buggy.”
He has always been good at it.
Denial. Faced with a friendship that has been nothing but pure for the first time in his life. Faced with burning hatred for his sheer existence. With death, even.
Captain calls it faithful till the end.
Rayleigh calls it dangerous; to lose yourself so far that reason isn’t able to catch up no more.
It’s the one thing he really excels at, though.“You won’t die tonight, you hear me?”
His voice wavers, then, as something else wants to be said.
Needs to, really.
Buggy throws a last glance at the pale skin framed by deep red hair, the fine sheen covering dark eyes, already so lost, so far away. And still his friend tries to comfort him-
“It’ll be alright…”No. Not friend.
The tears blur his vision, as he gives in to the sob and his heart’s words.
No more time to be afraid of rejection and being hurt. No more time for denial.“You are my brother!”

Summary
“Did you forget I was there when you tried to make us that stew-”
“That was not my fault and you know it, the kettle must have been a hundred years old-“
“I genuinely thought you were trying to assassinate us, nearly succeeded with that explosion-“
A finger begins to poke his chest, as she leans towards him just a little bit more.
“Look, mister, if you continue to pester me-“She is gorgeous.
Her hair falls softly over her shoulder, illuminated by the warm glow of the fireplace. The light in her eyes almost sparkles with the humor of the situation, no matter how threatening her words may be. And then there are her red, plump lips, mere inches away from his face, while the ghost of her breath fleetingly wafts across his cheek.
One of her hands is still poised in front of his face, pointing at his chest, but when he grabs her wrist and pulls her impossibly closer, her words falter, and she falls silent. “Then what?” he asks raucously, unable to look away from her captivating eyes.Series

Summary
“Lucanis.”
Her voice mixes with another familiar one calling his name in the distance, but he is too far gone in her blazing eyes to take note. “I need you to promise me,” she begs, desperation coloring her words, as she closes the distance between them. He can feel her warmth through the layers of clothing. “Let’s just pretend for a moment.”
Her eyes begin to shine from unshed tears and the flickering light of the fireplace. He knows she needs this.
A reassurance to focus on the fight ahead. But he also knows that if something really were to go wrong-
“No.”

Summary
“Lucanis-“
He lets his guard down, then, as Spite accommodates him and silently draws back.
He tries to smile at her the way she does when he shares his worries in the little chamber he calls his own. For once he wants to be what she is to him; a beacon of light, never bowing down, not ever looking back, always there to catch him when his broken wings won’t bear his weight.
He feels it in his chest, spreading to every fiber of his body, when he smiles so reassuringly at her that it takes her breath away and she stills, lost in her gaze aimed at him and him alone.“It will be alright.”
He will make sure of it.Series

Summary
„Are you sure about this, Roger?“Silence. The look he gives the boy speaks volumes. Nonetheless…
“I’ll entrust him to you.”The babe, eerily silent for once, is given to his new caretaker, as the captain continues on.
“Take care of him.”A smile is given, as the kid makes a grabbing motion for Roger.
“Teach him of the world and its most cherishable values.”One last time he reaches out to brush a red, short strand out of his face to see the wondrous, large eyes staring up at him.
“Protect him at all costs.”A pause.
“Hide him away from the world.”
A kiss on a squirming child’s forehead.“For if they ever find him…”

Summary
“I don’t really like dogs…” Jon muttered, his face still buried in his knees, although he could still hear everything around him.
“That’s not true, you love Krypto,” Lois kept up her small ministrations of rubbing up and down his shoulders as if that might help ease some of the tension in his back. Jon refused to come out of the small ball he had curled himself in.
Sure, he loved Krypto, but Krypto was a superpowered dog. It wasn’t like he could accidentally hurt Krypto. He was invulnerable and had pretty much all the same powers as Clark and Jon did.
It wasn’t like Jon could accidentally kill Krypto because he didn’t know his own strength.

Summary
[“Dad, why’d you go so fast? That was dangerous!” Jon yelped. Dad looked down at him in confusion, before zeroing in on Jon’s left hand, still gripped tightly on the ladder’s edge.
“Did you stay to hold the ladder for me?” Dad asked. Jon could feel himself blush as he looked down at his toes.
“I didn’t want you to fall."]

Summary
"How long have you been going through this, Jonathan?"
“A few months..” Jon began, trailing off.
Mentally coaching himself to stay calm, Clark could only be grateful he hadn’t been doing this to himself for too long.
“..after we moved, I guess.”
Oh.
Clark did the math in his head.
Something inside him broke.
The blonde shrugged - almost casually.
As if Clark’s whole world hadn’t crumbled before him.
“You- you’ve been doing this for two years?” He made eye contact with his son, his voice barely a whisper. Was he such a horrible father that he didn’t notice his own child was in so much pain that he felt like hurting himself?

And he doesn't know if it's fate's doing, but even if it isn't, Shanks knows his own is sealed the moment she looks at him, lovely frown in place, and tells him to order his drink or get out of her doorway.
Companion fic to Siren's Call, wherein a cheerful scoundrel sweeps a village barmaid off her feet. Or was it the other way around?
