"Your mother made me make my own pie with her yesterday." He said, sitting up to glare. "What is it with your family? Why do none of you respect nobles?" He said and Merlin dropped the plate of food he was carrying. "...I hate you." He sighed, staring at his food bouncing on the ground with a loud clatter. "I should hire your mother as my servant. She wouldn't drop my food." He added with a fierce nod.
"My mother is here?" He asked and Arthur paused.
"You haven’t seen her?"
"No. Fuck. It’s finally happening." He whispered. Arthur stared, absolutely baffled. "She’s come to kill me." He explained and dashed towards the door to peer outside.
"What?" Arthur snorted. "Merlin. Your mother can be very firm, but she’s not the killing type. She is too softhearted for such things." He said and Merlin slammed the door shut, leaning against the wood as if barricading it.
"If you're not careful you'll be next."

"...what?" Arthur asked blearily as the boy set down his food. Merlin didn't even pause as he went to the dresser and tossed some more clothes out of the cabinet. "You... You have an apprentice?" He repeated and squinted. "Why?"
"Oh, you know," Merlin shrugged, tossing a tunic on the bed "In case I die or something." He said. The boy blinked before glancing over at Merlin with pursed lips.
"You're not dying, are you?" He asked and Arthur had to shake his head to try and keep up with the conversation.
"I don't think so... But you can never be certain." Merlin told him with an air of stoicism. Arthur scowled. Honestly. This was ridiculous. Clearly, this was his servant's newest attempt to get out of work (or at least work less).
"Merlin, you're not getting an apprentice." Arthur told him. Merlin stopped to look at the king.
"I am. I have. He's right there. Say hi, Daegal."
"Hi!"
Or
Daegal lives. Merlin takes him on as an apprentice. Arthur isn't sure what's going on. Mordred is also mad for some reason.

Summary
For months, Buck has been professionally harassed over dispatch by one infuriatingly calm operator with a smug voice, a superiority complex, and a deeply concerning habit of calling him sweetheart over an active emergency line.
Buck hates him.
Obviously.
Then he meets Eddie Diaz in person and unfortunately discovers that the smug voice comes with stupidly nice hands, unfair eye contact, and a thirteen-year-old son who immediately decides Buck is his problem now.
Worse, Eddie gets weirdly possessive every time someone else looks at Buck too long.
Worse than that, Buck likes it.
And when a bad call turns into a building collapse and Eddie has to listen to Buck trapped beneath it over an open dispatch line, suddenly none of it feels like a joke anymore.

“All I'm saying,” he tries to save as he sits down, Buck on his tail, “is that I don’t need a girlfriend right now, Buck. I need Christopher around, a job, and the 118 family. All of that is enough to fulfill my thirties just fine. What else do I need?”
He drinks his beer and turns on the TV and does not look at Buck.
“Sex,” Buck says simply, and Eddie coughs, choking on a sip. Some of it falls on his sweats and he curses, swiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “Jeez. See? You haven’t gotten your dick wet in so long the word scares you,” Buck concludes. Annoyingly.
“Are you aware that not everyone needs sex, Buck?” He asks pointedly, giving up on cleaning up the beer. Whatever, it was just a drop; he’ll put his sweats in the washer before bed.
“Yes,” Buck nods solemnly. “You do, however.”
Eddie bristles. “Excuse me?”
“You are infinitely less cranky when you're dating.”
“I was very cranky when I was dating Marisol,” he points out.
“Yes, because you were pent up. I don’t know what to tell you, you’re proving my point.”

Buck is slipping. The world narrows to the roar in his ears, and the hand squeezing his own, and something warm and tart flooding his mouth.
“Maddie knows. She knows,” he sucks in a breath. “It was always you, it never could be anyone else.” Buck’s voice is barely above a breath. He’s not sure he’s still making any sound – or sense – at all. “When I’m – ah. Take care of him, okay?”
His teeth, his lips are coated with something thick and sticky. He swallows what he can, but it pools under his tongue again quickly, salt and iron, and he has to swallow again.

Eddie doesn’t bother looking up from the page he’s on, but he does let out a deep sigh. His optometrist had recently prescribed him reading glasses and they’re perched on the bridge of his nose. He looks like a sexy teacher. Buck probably wouldn’t have failed out of college (and would’ve realized he was bisexual a lot sooner) if any of his professors had looked like that.
“I thought you were leaving.” Eddie seems to realize that Buck is actually waiting for an answer. He slips a couple of his long, elegant fingers between the pages he was on and lets the book close around them to mark his place. The unimpressed look on his face is highlighted by the dark frames.
“I am,” Buck pouts. He’d just said goodnight and goodbye to Chris (who had given him a look nearly identical to the one Eddie is sporting right now when he’d knocked on his door and interrupted his game). “Sorry for wanting to know more about you before I go.”
Eddie does roll his eyes at that. “You know everything there is to know about me.”
“I don’t know about your porn habits!”

Despite the endless scenarios Buck turned over in his head on the short drive over, he's still absolutely unprepared for the sight of Eddie Diaz in his sister's kitchen, hair askew and eyes panic-wide and not sick-looking at all, handcuffed to the fridge door.
"Buck!" Eddie squeaks, stepping back but not making it very far as his wrist snags in the handcuff. "I can explain."
