But Draco's ache only grows as the evening goes on. The pain and agony won't relent.
So Hermione offers to help him out. After all, it's what any good colleague would do.

Summary
Unbeknownst to them, a fae witch cast a curse upon their heads that bound their souls. It began with hearing faint thoughts through a bond, but only when they were close. And then they could talk through the bond. Then they could feel one another — and they did everything to keep themselves apart by land and sea. But distance didn’t stop the bond, it only intensified it until they realized that only in death would the bond end— and the war.
Ps-I’m considering expanding this into a full fic, but this scene has been playing in my mind so here it is.
