Dean has a plan, and like most of those, this one goes horribly wrong. As in—becoming a creature of the Lore and butchering his soul in the same night—wrong. He only hopes that whatever free-will he may or may not have isn't just another chip on someone's checkerboard of doom.

Childe hadn't meant to ask aloud, it just happened.
Now it was too late to take the words back.
Across from the table, the only indication that Zhongli had heard him at all was the fraction of a second halt of his tea cup on it's way to his lips. In the silence that followed Childe's stupid, stupid question, the tea cup resumed it's merry way, and the consultant took savored minutes tasting the beverage, closed eyed, before eventually he had to return the cup to the table. All of this done with the calm and composure that befitted him.
In not so many words, it was torture.

THIS STORY IS NOT FINISHED and probably never will be, but I'm really proud of the 39-ish chapters that exist, and chapter 19 has instructions on how to fold a fitted sheet (yes, really!), so I want it to see the light of day. At some point, I will at least post a SUMMARY of the intended ending.

Crowley clenched his teeth. Supreme Archangel Aziraphale was every bit as much of a prisoner as Principality Aziraphale had ever been. Possibly even more so. “Not going how you expected, then.”
“I have made changes, Crowley.”
“What, more tartan?”
“Non-superficial changes.”
“...What’s in the briefcase?”
“...Information,” Aziraphale answered. “You might find it useful.” He was barely even pretending to read his paper, just staring at it. Frowning. His entire body was stiff and tense.
“...Information, about what?”
“The Second Coming.”

Under criticism from the public, the ministry wants to show they’re cracking down on crime. So, they send Harry to Azkaban for casting an unforgivable on Bellatrix in their entryway. In a cell surrounded by Death Eaters, dementors stopping by to watch him for far too long, and one guard in particular showing a little too much interest in Harry, Harry’s bound to come out of the situation very changed.
