Summary
“Hermes pried his eyes away from his mirrored reflection. It was expected, he reasoned, that an individual be imperfect during war. He had seen first hand how exhausted Odysseus had looked on Aeaea. How his ribs showed, how his eyes were sunken, how his hair was unkept.
But Hermes was not a mortal. He should not look like one.“
[OR]
Hermes struggles to grasp the fact that the war has made him appear physically imperfect and that the passage of Time effects gods as well.

Summary
Agamemnon had heard the rumors. The kind of whispers that slithered through the camp like a creeping sickness, low and urgent, only spoken when they thought no one important was listening.
They had started long before the war, when Palamedes first dragged Odysseus from Ithaca, but here—amid the restless soldiers, the sleepless nights filled with quiet mutterings and nervous glances—they had festered into something darker, something more tangible, lurking at the edges of the men’s minds like a half-forgotten nightmare.
They said Odysseus’s eyes were not like other men's. It wasn’t just the sharpness, the cold gleam they possessed when his mind turned inward—it was something deeper, something that felt wrong, unnatural.

Summary
In their argument, all those years ago, Odysseus had cursed Athena out, screamed at her behind his angry tears. He had insisted that she was forever alone. And, while he was not incorrect, he was not right either.
And only after reuniting with his former mentor, his former friend, would he learn this truth.
