Summary
Hunter has very few memories of his childhood, but the few he does have he guards with enough fervor to rival that of the Bat Queen’s protectiveness over her palismen.
He remembers his uncle’s fond touches and gentle smiles as he played at the foot of his throne, still too young to walk without stumbling every few steps. He remembers the burning gold of talons being shucked aside as he tucked him into bed, telling him tales of the human realm where the oceans do not boil, where monsters do not lie underfoot to gobble up young witches, where magic was merely a slight of hand and a farce of tricks and gentle foolishness.
He too remembers with less fondness the sight of pale flesh turning an oozing green and muddy sludge as it cracked artfully crafted marble floors. Remembers the searing hot pain of it slicing through his cheek, his ear, his arms and legs. The barking orders to do better, to not disappoint, to follow the will of the Titan.
But, he knows that Belos loves him.

After everything that happened, when the dust settled, the others cried. Not all at once, but in fits and starts. Gus first, and then Luz, when she was talking to her mom. Amity that night, when everyone was supposed to be asleep. Willow, surprisingly, early that next morning, seemingly unprompted.
Hunter understood. They were younger, less trained. They didn’t know how to just keep on moving forward, yet. And they were civilians, not soldiers, so it was more acceptable for them. Safer.
The others could cry. That wasn’t something Hunter did, though.

Owning and operating the region's premier year-round haunted attraction is not easy, especially not when you disdain the use of stage blood and chainsaws. To have Choosy Moms publicly declaring you to be their Family-Friendly Pick for the season only makes it all the harder.
Herod Blackwell could take it all in stride, of course, if he didn't have to deal with one of his most loyal, most discerning, and most handsome customers coming back week after week for a fresh fright. Perhaps the Touch Me Thursday special is more trouble than it's worth...
