Fate’s hand remained limp in the other’s grasp, the melody of her voice chill like a January breeze, “I fear I am unable to return the sentiment, Miss Takamachi.”
They were gathering an audience. Nanoha could feel the negative emotions beating palpably at her psyche, with the most hostility pouring off of the statuesque blonde facing her. Icy chips of ruby stared her down, daring her to do her worst. Used to such tableaux, the executive remained unfazed and she released the blonde’s hand, silently adjusting her initial impression at the woman’s combative words. Curious, a small corner of her mind studied the faint regret over the feeling that maybe, they could have been friends, if not for this.
Alternate Universe Fic set in the real world, mostly. No magical powers.

Takina tilts her head. A bit of condensation drips onto her feet, and she tenses momentarily. “Not possible.”
