Near the center of the room, a huge Saint Bernard—Alex’s own disaster child, Droolius Caesar—is lying on his side, motionless except for the slow wag of his tail. Curled against him, like they were born attached, is a beagle, eyes closed, muzzle resting on Caesar’s front paw. They are, for lack of a better word, spooning.
“They’ve been like this every day for the last week. Morning to afternoon. They eat near each other. Nap together. They’ve started ignoring the other dogs entirely. I think they’re soulmates.”This sounds ridiculous. “They’re what?”
“Soulmates, Mr. Claremont-Diaz.”
“But they’re dogs.”
A soft, British voice speaks up in the periphery. “It’s not unheard of.”

When Alex arrives at the court, Henry is already there, looking as annoyingly symmetrical as Alex remembers. It's not natural that someone looks so perfect all the time.
"Alex," Henry says with a nod, his eyes traveling up and down Alex's body. Probably judging his outfit. "Always a pleasure."
"Isn't it, though?" Alex jabs back. "Wish I could say the same."
Alex is a professional tennis player, Henry is an actor against whom Alex has harbored a years-long grudge. They're paired up to play together at Desert Smash, a celebrity tennis match for charity. What could possibly happen?

His main task that day was to water all of the plants and flowers around the palace. Alex preferred to use a fairly large, heavy watering can so he didn’t have to refill as often and could be more efficient with his time. He was in the middle of watering a significant arrangement of sweet peas, roses, orchids, and, of course, lily-of-the-valley, a royal favourite, when it happened. The edge of the can caught on one of the stems as he poured the water - rookie move, honestly. But the can was still mostly full and when he tried to maneuver to adjust, the can poured all over his chinos. Jeans were, of course, forbidden to be worn in the palace by any staff.
After the initial shock of being doused with cold water, Alex looked down, only to find that a huge wet spot was now covering his entire crotch area. "Fuck. Oh, fuck," he hissed under his breath. There was no way he could be seen in the palace like this. He’d definitely be fired out of some sort of decorum protocol.
(or, what happens when Henry stumbles upon a hot Kensington Palace florist in his foyer and he isn't wearing any pants...)

The first time Henry got on his knees for Alex, it was an accident.
It never would have happened if it weren’t for the strict “partners only” rule that Alex’s company had for its annual holiday party. One of the biggest perks of working in the legal department for a major entertainment company was the huge fancy party they put on each year, and Alex had been planning to bring his best friend, Henry, since practically the day he was hired. The two of them had already been talking about it for months by that point.
So, really, the only option Alex was left with was subterfuge.
