Sei sighed exaggeratedly. "It's the first snow of the year, dumbass. I wanna go out and enjoy it."
"...In the middle of the night?" Kai asked after a few moments.
"We don't know if it'll be snowing in the morning," his brother said, trying to remove the window screen. Fresh snow shown white on the roof outside and on his floor.
"But it's snowing! We need shoes and—"
Sei turned to him and crossed his arms. Snow kept blowing into his room. "Just shut up, will you? It's the first snow, and it's not like Gashu will let us outside, and it's not like we can get to the door or our shoes without being noticed. I'm going out on the roof now."
"Sei—" Kai called, reaching after his brother. Sei was already halfway through the window.
This really was not a good idea. They could slip and fall. Neither of them had anything on except pajamas. Nonetheless, Kai slowly approached his window and stuck his head out. -

As the crowd surged forward, the wall of elevators became visible. They were a far cry from the sleek machines in Piltover that carried Viktor to and from the lab every day. Some were open-air metal cages held together by chains, while others were sealed boxes with cracked windows. A couple were even illuminated by bare flickering lightbulbs.
The rusted industrial contraptions were connected by a system of pulleys and mechanical winches, likely built from repurposed factory machinery and engineered to withstand the constant abuse of hauling people and heavy equipment hundreds of meters down into the dark. Viktor smiled with a sense of pride at the Undercity’s ingenuity.
When he turned to Jayce, he was unprepared for what he saw. Jayce’s posture was stiff and all the color had drained from his face. He was staring at the lift in front of them, eyes wide and jaw clenched, like it was a coffin swinging open just for him.
“Jayce… are you okay?”
