“Mike?”
It’s a whisper, but it’s filled with something so earnest, so true, that it strikes through Mike’s very core. Rips apart at his chest, with the familiarity of it. The way his name sounds in this younger Will’s throat, soft and gentle and so, so relieved.
“Will,” Mike says back, matching his whisper. “Hey, Will, it’s me. Mike.”
“But—” Will frowns. He’s so unsure, Mike wants to cry for him. “You’re so tall.”

“I feel him everywhere Mike. You have to let go. You have to. I’ll infect you. I’m rotting. I’m rotting, Mike.” Will sobs. Mike shakes his head, pulls away from the hug just enough to hold Will’s face in his large, warm hands. His eyes are red and Will doesn’t know if it’s from the cold or worry.
“No. You’re not rotten. You won’t infect me.” Mike insists.
“I will. I’ve always been rotten. That’s why the demogorgons took to me when he basically fucked them into me. I will infect you too.” Will doesn’t sugar coat his words, he knows the truth. He'd seen it in his trance: the disgust in Mike’s eyes, the light leaving Mike’s eyes. Knows Vecna chose him because he was weak, small, and sinful. Will thinks he can feel it spreading to Mike. If Mike’s warmth can spread to him, then why won’t Will’s sin spread to him?
