The succubus’ tittering echoes mockingly in his mind. Shen Qingqiu had been strongly tempted to destroy the little bronze mirror in front of Lady Meiyin out of spite, to show exactly what he thought of her disgusting jokes. He wouldn’t be bribed into sparing a group of demons for some sordid trinket - but before he had been able to follow through on slaying a single one of them, they had vanished in a flash of overly floral mist. At least he had managed to chase them away from their latest nest. It is poor consolation, and he slinks back to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect in a foul mood.
Foolishly, he brings the mirror with him.

“Don’t look so sad,” Shen Yuan scolds him. “I’ll be seeing you tomorrow, won’t I?”
“Y-yes, Laoshi,” Luo Binghe says, staring up at him with starry eyes. Shen Yuan makes himself take his hand away, before someone sees. People could get the wrong idea. “I’ll be here!”
“Good,” Shen Yuan says. “Now, go off, you. Shoo!”
Luo Binghe nods obediently, then scampers off. Such a sweet child! Shen Yuan watches him go with satisfaction, then goes to his car to drive home, alone. Luo Binghe has to walk home on his own, since the person running his group home doesn’t have the time or willingness to drive him. It would be so easy and simple for Shen Yuan to drive Luo Binghe home himself, let the poor kid sit inside of a nice heated car instead of having to freeze on his way home and walk his thin soles even thinner - but no. He can’t.
He promised the principal that he’d stop.

“You weren’t supposed to wake up,” Shen Jiu bitterly mutters. “I just need a place to sleep for tonight, and this place was convenient. Don’t make me regret it.”
After a beat of hesitation, Yue Qingyuan silently nods, not knowing whether the order to stay quiet still applies or not. Shen Jiu’s argument makes no sense, of course. The Head Disciple’s private residence all the way over on Qiong Ding cannot possibly be convenient for him, and-- and to be willing to share a bed with Yue Qingyuan--
“Should I leave?” he whispers.
Shen Jiu tenses.
“Nevermind,” Yue Qingyuan quickly amends himself. “Sorry, forget I said anything.”

Summary
Yue Qingyuan walks up to the Bamboo House and knocks on the door, then takes several steps back until he’s no longer standing on the porch. Eventually (as if either hesitating or just making him wait out of spite) the door opens, revealing Shen Qingqiu. He stands behind the threshold of his door, glaring down at Yue Qingyuan. There are at least three feet between them.
“What,” he says flatly.
“Hello, Qingqiu-shidi,” Yue Qingyuan says mildly, and makes sure to smile. No teeth in it, no loudness or abruptness - nothing threatening.
