Summary
If she were under oath, Frankie would admit that her plan’s lynch pin for convincing Graff he’s not a monster in the making is Ellie.
Ellie isn’t in on the plan of course, but she’s the key all the same because actions speak louder than words and Ellies actions are that she loves Graff very, very much, always has.
The other action is that Graff knows Frankie, knows she would never let someone within a hundred feet of Ellie if she thought they might cause Ellie harm.
The first piece of evidence comes when the three of them are preparing dinner and Ellie is very carefully copying the way that Graff holds his knife as he dices the tomatoes, which he notices with a small, fond smile before correcting Ellie’s technique to keep her finger tips safe. -

Summary
Kate then settles in to help Lily with whatever she’s doing because it will be work that doesn’t take too much brain power, but will allow her to focus enough that her mind won’t linger on Addy. It works great until lightning cracks across the sky and Kate jumps, but what really sends her spiraling is Lily.
“One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi.”
And then suddenly Kate can’t breathe, can only hear Addy in the backseat counting out the beats between lightning and thunder mere minutes before everything had gone wrong.
She tries to wheeze out something about how she has to go as she stumbles towards the RV and the bathroom in it, and Lily’s calling of her name mixes into Addy’s screaming of it.
On birthdays and the anniversary Kate and Javi tell the Tornado Wranglers about the friends they lost.

Tyler is pretty sure that Kate has no idea that she has a death grip on his wrist after they climb out of the swimming pool in Stillwater. But he isn’t going to say anything because she clearly needs it, has a wild haunted look in her eyes from more than just riding out a tornado clutching a metal pole and her breathing is just the right side of erratic.
“Y’alright?” He asks gently, feeling a little bit like he’s approaching a spooked horse, when the ambulance pulls up and they both point at the mom and her daughter in sync. Kate blinks up at him before she shudders in a deep breath, holds it for a few seconds and releases his wrist when she exhales.

Summary
She picks up her pencil and carefully underlines a few words. Dalgleish throws her another look which she ignores as it is a friendly non-verbal argument they have been having since Kate started leaving her books in his car. He falls firmly on the side of the argument that thinks writing in books is essentially a crime, she believes that it’s her bloody book, she can do what she likes with it, and she likes being able to make notes on her thoughts.
(Dalgleish will not admit to anyone, especially not Kate who will remain oblivious if he has anything to say about it, that he always finds time to read what she leaves behind in those books: which words she circled, which phrases she underlined, the notes about feelings and thoughts she scribbles in the margins, so similar and yet so different from the way she constructs her police notes.)
“I discovered poetry when I met my wife,” he admits and sees Kate’s pencil waver slightly before she continues on casually.

Standing on the poisoned ground of Chernobyl, Boris and Ulana watch helplessly as the car drives away from the makeshift courthouse. They watch with their hearts in their throats and their stomachs in their shoes as the KGB drive away with their comrade in tow. Not "comrade" in the Party sense of the word. They'd perverted it. If telling a truth that potentially saved lives was punished like this, they'd perverted it. They perverted everything.
But what else was there to call it? They'd never dared name the strange shape that had formed around the three of them. Between them. Through them. A year in the crucible of Chernobyl had changed them inexorably, as the accident would change everything for kilometers around it and for years to come.
And now they were split asunder, just as cruelly as they had been fused together.
"Where are they taking him?" Ulana asks, staring up at Boris with wide, lost eyes. She looks shell-shocked. Horrified. I did this,her face says. I told him to tell the truth at all costs, and now he's going to pay. Just him. It should be me.

“Oh, gods forbid they respond positively to you doing a good thing,” Neve deadpans. She squeezes him a little again. “That’s sort of how it works, Astarion.”
She can’t even see it. Believes the best of them all so earnestly, himself included, that she can’t see how it would all fall away without her at the center. It’s enough to make a person feel like they might actually deserve it.
“And by it, you mean…?” he asks instead.
Her huffed laugh of disbelief ruffles the hair at his neck. “Friendship, you idiot,” she answers. “And the general acquisition thereof.”
Astarion cuts a sideways look at her as best he can with her still nestled so close. “And is that what we are? Friends?”
He’d meant it to tease her, and yet finds that the silence before her answer twists his stomach. Because…he doesn’t actually know, either.
“Yes, Astarion,” Neve says gently, after a moment. “I think we’re very good friends.”
