Merebear and I were talking about frozen in the patreon discord... then this song was brought up... this is very silly and self indulgent but i really like frozen :3 also the actual fic has nothing to do with frozen other than being inspired by this song so yeah -

Summary
Her voice was as sweet as he remembered.
But what sealed his decision was just one of her words. Chase.
He would always be Nox’s downfall. Any plans he ever had would forever be thwarted and tossed around like meaningless toys when Chase was there. Even when he wasn’t. Nox was like a storybook, moulded by Chase’s hands, prewritten plot useless in the presence of his will.
Chase’s Buddy. He always would be, really. His.
“S…Silver,” he choked out. His voice was weak and trembling and desperate.

cut scene from chapter 3 of Say You Love Me.

you dont really have to read SYLM before this? it will make more sense if you do, but i think it works fine as a standalone, considering its just the smut and not much plot from SYLM made it in there. -

Summary
Chase was born without a red string. Which was fine, it happened to a lot of people. It just meant that he didn’t have a soulmate. Which was fine.
Or it would have been, if he were anyone else. But, honestly, Chase wanted nothing more than a soulmate. Someone he could love forever, and would love him forever. Even if he knew it didn’t always turn out that way—being soulmates didn’t guarantee a happily ever after—it’d give him a hell of a lot more chance than his current process: crushing on a boy who had an unconnected string tied to their pinkie finger already. The devastating knowledge that they already had a soulmate, even if they hadn’t met them, and it could never be Chase.
--
OR Chase only has a red string on his finger when he enters books. And his soulmate seems to hate him. -

Summary
Chase had just wanted a vacation. A little holiday. A break from Deacon and Prunella and Grandpa and even Silver’s pitying stares.
It wasn’t “escapism”, as Deacon had accused, voice condescending yet still sympathetic in the way it often was. That was a stupid word that Chase hadn’t actually heard before and also did not apply to him in the slightest.
He wasn’t trying to escape his mother’s decline. He knew it would happen—was happening—and he knew that she wouldn’t be able to stay in Sugar Springs forever, no matter how many of Deacon’s parents were doctors (it was just one, unfortunately, but it wouldn’t have made a difference). So she was moved to a hospital. A hospital that was almost an hour away and Chase hated it.
But that didn’t mean he was escaping from it.
He just needed a break. Not for long, it would barely even be one night in the real world.
And if Buddy happened to show up because he thought Chase was doing a normal book then so be it. The last vacation they’d had together on the beach was… fun. Despite it all.
This one would be better.
Not that he was planning for Buddy to come.

Summary
And when his once loving eyes filled with shock and pain, she didn’t cry.
And when his body fell against hers, slowly lowering them both to the ground, she didn’t cry.
And when her heart shattered with the weight of his empty body and the knowledge that she did this, and there was no way she could take it back; she didn’t cry.
