They had a system. It was all worked out, as fair as could be. Most alien parties had fun and mysterious substances, but Voltron couldn’t exactly have all its paladins running around drunk off their asses or otherwise under unknown influences. But they were defenders of the goddamn universe, they had to have fun sometime.

Summary
Lance watched the surface grow farther and farther away, bubbles rising all around, spiraling toward the sky. The waves pulled at his hair to surround his face, strands tickling his lips and freckles. His heartbeat pounded loud in his ears. His heart pulled him down. His fingertips pulled him down. His inadequacy pulled him down. He was drowning in it all.
Then- a flash to his right. Something grey and sleek. Lance righted himself, terror taking hold of his body for two infinite seconds. Prey, his subconscious whispered to him. To whatever this creature is, you are prey.
Lance is insecure and loves the water. Shiro is a carnivorous merman who probably wants to eat him. They meet, and bond.

“C’mon,” Hound says, knocking his shoulder into Fox’s with a force that makes Fox stumble. “You gotta admit, it’s pretty funny.”
“It’d be funnier if we didn’t have to investigate fucking bird murder now,” Fox mutters. He can’t believe he chugged his caf for this. The burn on his tongue still stings.
“Burder,” Hound says under his breath. Then, “Wait. You’re not really going to investigate it, are you?”
Fox stops. Hound does, too, shifting his weight, uneasy, like he senses he’s stepped into a trap. “Of course I’m going to fucking investigate it. It’s my job.”
“But. It’s a duck.”
“Wrong. It’s the Chancellor’s duck. And that makes it our problem.”
“Our?” Hound asks weakly.
