All the narrator did was try and find ideas for his game, instead, he was assaulted by some sort of malware. When he woke up, things were significantly different.
And Stanley wasn't helping him figure out what happened.
But eventually, he found a video camera; Something he definitely didn't program in.

‘You said that the last time you wrote a new death ending,’ Stanley thought with a shrug.
“And didn’t you enjoy the air of thrill and whimsical humor in that one? I know I certainly did.”

Stanley wanted to agree, but this had disaster written all over it. Was he really willing to give up what little control he had over his life just so that the Narrator could be happy?

Basically, Stanley and the Narrator struggle communicate with each other, as per usual. But now, the Narrator has a plan to bring them closer than either of them had ever imagined.
