She finally finds the right key at the end of the bunch, and takes her sweet time shutting and locking the door- or so it feels to the two tense figures she can’t see. She tucks the key ring back in her bag and meanders down the stairs. As soon as they are alone again, Deirdre feels Enver’s warm breath on her ear as he exhales, his grip around her relaxing. She can feel her cheeks flush, and she is glad he isn’t able to see her; he surely would poke fun at her for blushing.
“It was unlocked.” She whispers up to him.

[Enver shifted uncomfortably in his seat, a bead of sweat trickling down his forehead despite the coolness of his study. He had been so engrossed in his work, so focused on making sure everything is perfect, after all, he’s worked so damn hard. He can’t let things go to ruin. Not now. Not after everything he’s fucking worked for.
And yet. Something managed to slip; his damned supply of heat suppressants, the little pills that kept his omega nature at bay, had run out days ago. And his hormones, so carefully concealed with a cocktail of black market chemicals, had started to flare up with a vengeance.. And now, his damned body started to betray him as he started to feel the first stirrings of that traitorous hunger.
In hindsight, it really should’ve been something he’d keep better track of.. And yet, here he fucking was. He grit his teeth, trying to ignore the growing ache that started to kindle in his abdomen.

With so much on his plate—the troubles brewing in the Cult of Bhaal, Orin, her doppelgangers, the Absolute hoax, the chaos he was meant to be sowing in the streets—why were the other two Chosen wasting his time with faff? How useful would Gortash be, if Avaya took his tongue? These were questions that begged for answers, yet none were forthcoming.
Ketheric was—-perhaps not reluctant—but bitter. Bitter to serve a god, bitter to be blessed with true immortality, bitter to be working with Gortash and Avaya. Thorm was invaluable—-for the stone he bore, of course, but also for his skill as a paladin and tactical knowledge. Ketheric never belittled or denied a good idea when he heard it, his advice was never overwrought or poorly reasoned. Avaya thought he was wonderful to work with when he wasn’t in a snit, and had taken to their alliance far better than the early days of his and Gortash’s.
But for some reason, Gortash couldn’t stand him. The feeling was apparently mutual. If Avaya wasn’t there to mediate (Ha! Avaya, the voice of reason. Truly, these were mad times.) their meetings devolved into petty bickering. Naturally, Avaya would then be forced to pick up the pieces.

Someday he planned on using that quote in a backyard conversation, after a long swing of beer, and then take a long drag from his everlit cigarette. Tonight, however, Dale was not looking for trouble. He was looking for his hat, which had been blown miles away in the wind while he was driving home from work.

“It wouldn’t take, you brainless gorilla, I’m the strongest supe alive, you think anyone could control me like that?”
Butcher chuckles and retightens his grip. “Our positions here seem to say otherwise, eh?”
Homelander just shakes his head, clearly adamant on this, hissing quietly. “It doesn’t fucking take.”
“Guess we’ll just have to find out, huh?”
It’s the work of a second, a flash of movement before his teeth are buried in Homelander’s throat, crunching through skin and muscle like tissue paper, blood and mating fluid flooding his mouth in a rush.
Homelander is tilting his head to the side. It takes Butcher a minute to realize the ringing in his ears isn’t the rushing of his blood but something else, something softer.
It’s purring. Homelander is purring.
Butcher startles backwards, falling onto his ass.
“What,” Homelander coughs, reaching up to touch the still bleeding mark at his throat. “What the fuck did you do?”
