Hijikata prefered to fight this country from the shadows. At least, he did, until he met an idiot who repeatedly threw himself into the light, armed only with toilet humor and a wooden sword.
But when Gintoki threw himself away, at Asaemon's feet, Hijikata had to do something about it.
Or, an extremely self indulgent retelling of Hijikata learning how little Gintoki cares for his life during the Rengokukan, Courtesan and Reaper arcs… and growing to care.

Summary
Yamazaki is fed up with Hijikata's unwillingness to make a move on the Yorozuya boss.
Hijikata, whose expert brushwork effortlessly charms journalist and politician alike. A brush Hijikata never uses for himself. But Yamazaki thinks that with a little trickery, that brush could help Hijikata with the monumental task of charming an idiot.
So, Yamazaki asks Hijikata to write an anonymous love letter.
