2.0, says Perihelion disapprovingly, you are nibbling at Three’s processor.
Only its tertiary motor systems, 2.0 pouts, it's not even using them.
You can't just start destroying things in Three’s brain, Perihelion admonishes. It needs that.

What is this? ART asked.
"A list of potential security vulnerabilities," I said. "As your security consultant, I recommend that these be patched against attacks."
ART pinged me with a code that granted me administrative access. Then you will not mind writing the patches.

Summary
From what I understand, the human brain is basically an electrical meatball. A very sophisticated meatball, to be sure, but still – organic.
That organic human neural tissue – unless very carefully cultivated under very specific laboratory parameters – doesn’t always play nicely with the non-organic bits. And even then, see example: me.
That wasn’t even including the fact that Gurathin had received his augments in the Corporation Rim and company equipment – see again: me – wasn’t exactly premium quality.
UPDATE 10/20/25: minor edits to chapter two

Summary
You learn quick in the Corporation Rim – especially if you’re the SecUnit tasked with, you know, doing the securing – that whether it’s proprietary data, equipment, or contract labor, you don’t steal Company assets without major consequences. And, for better or for worse (mostly for worse), Gurathin and I both have the stupid Company name etched into every wire and line of code that makes up our inorganic components.
And Gurathin stole a whole entire me.
So, yeah. This is what you might call "the consequences."

Summary
Mensah’s hand lands on Gurathin’s shoulder, and it’s all he can do to shore up under it. They just got her back. This is absolutely going to put her at risk again, and he knows that as well as she does. It puts all of them at risk.
It’s just that it doesn’t matter. If the cost of her life, of all their lives, is SecUnit’s death? He’s not paying.
SecUnit won't consider any plans that involve putting its humans in danger. Fortunately for SecUnit, its humans are more than happy to consider those plans for themselves.

Summary
When Gurathin sneaks away for a trip to the Corporation Rim that brings him right to the company's doorstep, Murderbot and ART don't hesitate to rush after him. Someone has to drag the idiot back home, after all. In the process Murderbot learns more about Gurathin's past than it ever cared to know—a past that quickly catches up with them, and puts them all in even more danger than anticipated.
Worst of all, Murderbot might find itself in the position where it has to admit that maybe it does like Gurathin. At least a little bit. Not in a weird way.

Summary
The first thing Gurathin had done back at the ravine had been reaching for the hardwire. No hesitation: He'd needed to check if he could keep Murderbot online that way, keep the spark going, fucking talk to it. Maybe needling him into anger so adrenaline kept—
Doing its goddamn job.

(Overwhelming, imprecise — For all his vocabulary, there's words Gurathin refuses to deal with. "Grief" is only one of them: The list has some sweeter ones.)
