Mike keeps replaying this scenario in his head wherein he hears the click of the front door and the sound of it swinging, alerting him awake. A voice would yell out for his name and announce that there’s take out dinner. Mike would get up from bed and rush to greet Norton, a smile blooming from both their faces as they both recognize each other.
But the apartment is dead quiet. There's nothing but the hum of Mike's fan and the scrapping sound of wheels against the concrete road.
Mike just wants to believe that Norton is stuck in traffic. He wants to believe that his order is just taking really long because of the line. Then he'll come home feeling a mix of frustration and excitement to rant to Mike about this customer who yelled at a worker for confusing their order — which was in fact, 25 different items.
No. It just couldn't be.
