Summary
Their lives ended in tragedy. Bodies ripped and torn, blood flowing thick and crimson as it filled their mouths with the taste of iron, while choking and strangling whatever screams they may have had. Their youth, happiness and potential, sacrificed, as so many others of their time, to a war none of them wanted nor had any choice in.
So many horrors, aches and regrets. Their final moments were ones of agony and helplessness, that didn’t achieve anything but to add another body to the pile and another person ‘missing in action’ for parents to mourn.
But this isn’t that story. This is a story of change, love, fate and cursed blessings. Of people forever altered, of a looming war tearing the world they knew apart, of family and friendship, of two children and their choices as they unwittingly change the course of history. Two souls on opposite sides, shown the other side of the coin and the horrors that lay within.
One where ancient powers return to the wizarding world once more - blooming like a blossom in spring, and sparking to life like the light of a new star slowly beginning to burn.

Gods, this was so good! Surprisingly light hearted and fluffy for a story mostly seen through the wholly idiotic and emotionally repressed eyes of one Mike Wheeler. Quick witted and funny, a real delight.

Summary
Will ignores a timid reply from his classmate, his focus fully on this strange interloper that could be his best friend’s twin.
Evil twin, as Dustin would say, his voice low and incriminating. Ultraman type shit. Will considers relaying the situation on their upcoming weekly call to make the current situation less unsettling.
The guy is cautiously smiling back now – a reflection of Will’s unconscious expression at the thought of Dustin’s clarification – and it doesn’t falter, even once Will loses his amusement. Instead, the grin widens, almost too big for his face and definitely too big for Mike’s usual range of expression. His eyebrows rise above the rim of his lenses.

God, i never knew i needed to see Will have a friendship where it’s just easy, allowing him to be happy like this. It’s so refreshing to see the two of them (Richie & Will) in a dynamic where they both flourish, gain confidence and understanding of themselves, without sacrificing parts of themselves or experiencing heartbreak. A crossover I didn’t know i needed until i read it, just sublime and a much better/earned happy ending than the one in the show.

Mike asks, like he's come to do every day, late at night, when the darkness can swallow the guilt and the regret rushing out of their hearts, when their sides press together, the floor long forgotten, ever since the first Will, please, come up here.
Will is a terrible person.
I'm in love with you. I'm having visions. I'm in love with you. I'm not really having nightmares, Vecna is tempting me with a version of you that loves me back. I'm in love with you.
"I think my death is the easiest solution to everything. The Upside Down will die with me."
Will can hear Mike swallow next to him.
"Will, I would let the world burn down to ashes if it meant keeping you in it."

They're back in Hawkins, everything is the way it's always been, except - yeah, it's still the middle of an apocalypse, Will is having nosebleeds and Mike would sacrifice the world for his best friend but is still losing him.

This was so wonderfully, achingly heart-wrenching. It played around with all the worst parts of their minds and memories, took the broken pieces of a story that was never granted enough care, and stuck them together in the most meaningful way. It wasn't scared to strike you where it hurts, nor play with the real darkness that lurks in the story of Hawkins - of the dark thoughts, nightmares and trauma twisting like a vine until you choke. And yet it turned all of that, the broken pieces and heartache, into such a beautiful love-story that ends happily, without ever teetering over the edge and becoming idealized or unrealistic. It still feels like Hawkins by the end. It still feels like Mike&Will.
I will definitely be revisiting this, to have my heart ripped to pieces and stitched back together again.
