The plush was absurd—round, wide-eyed, and stuffed to maximum capacity. Its golden-orange scales shimmered slightly under the fair lights, and its stitched mouth hung open in an expression of eternal derp.
Riddle tried—tried—to maintain his composure.
But the moment he wrapped his arms around it, his lips cracked into a smile... and then he giggled.
Actually giggled.
It slipped out of him, light and unguarded, and he buried his face into the soft fabric of the plush to hide it—but not fast enough. His shoulders shook slightly with the sound, and the fish wobbled with the movement as he hugged it close.
It was ridiculous.
It was perfect.

In one swift motion, he grabbed Floyd by the collar and yanked him down to eye level, his grip sharp, knuckles white with restraint.
Floyd blinked, surprised—but his grin was already forming. Wide. Expectant.
Riddle’s voice came low and precise, every word clipped with fury.
“We’re going to the forest behind the school,” he said, his eyes burning, “and you’re going to run. I’m going to hunt you down like the wild beast that you are until I stop wanting to throttle you every time you so much as breathe wrong in my direction.”
There was madness in his stare. No filter, no pretense, no civility.
Just raw, snapping tension.
Floyd’s grin stretched wide, sharp and predatory.
“Ooooh~ Sounds fun, Goldfishy.”

In fact, Hyacine mused, you probably didn’t even have to bring up Mydei's name. Phainon would inevitably derail any conversation into an ode to his muse’s greatness.

Jade was discussing Sunday’s newest mission within Aventurine’s earshot. Maybe it was on purpose. Who knew? Aventurine had trouble reading the woman, compared to the rest of the population. But of course Aventurine nonchalantly eavesdropped. He wanted to know what mission Jade had for his would-be executioner. It was nothing too complicated. Sunday was just supposed to visit one of the IPC’s clients and placate them, as they have become terribly annoying. Easy to do for Sunday with his stupid mind magic. But because of the distance, it would be an overnight trip that Jade could not join Sunday on, since she was busy with whatever other tasks. So, Jade briefed him before sending her charge on his first solo mission.
