Dana huffed a laugh but turned to give him a knowing look. “Talk to me Robby, what’s going on?”
“I fucking wish I knew,” Robby grumbled, letting his head fall back against the brick. He considered pulling his phone out to call Andrew but what was the point? He had no idea what to say or where to start. Still, alarm bells were going off in the back of his mind, refusing to quiet.
“I think he needs more than I can give him,” Robby finally mumbled, releasing his biggest fear over the past few months.
“I’ve been waiting for you to realize that.” Dana’s face was soft where she smiled at him, like she was actually proud of him. “What are you going to do about it?”
He heard the siren of the ambulance before he saw it. With one last inhale, he dropped the butt to the concrete and stubbed it out with his sneaker as the truck screeched to a stop. Turning to face her while he walked back towards the doors, he held his hands up and shrugged. “Don’t know that either.”
