My eyes desperately attempt to adjust in the sudden darkness as I use my trembling hands to guide myself along the stone cold walls to blindly follow the wailing child. Each step brings me closer to the fearful unknown as my mind paints horrid images of what I might find."

Through the opening Avery just managed to make out a human shaped lump laying under the covers of a bed. He could only glimpse at the lump’s face almost entirely covered in curly, knotted hair before the door shut again.
The mother backed away with an apologetic look. “He… he is still asleep. Nothing will be able to wake him, he is a very heavy sleeper lately.”

When he grabs Vox again, Vox doesn't come easy—he lashes out blindly with claws and rakes them across Val's cheek, opening a thin gash, and Val grunts as he seizes both of Vox's wrists with his two lower hands and takes hold of Vox's shoulders with his upper ones. Sparks prickle against his skin, sharp and biting, but Vox isn't trying to electrocute him—he's just vibrating like one large livewire, overloading just like the machine beside them.
"No—no, don't fucking—you can't—"
Vox struggles, jerking against Val's grip, breath coming in desperate, labored gasps. Val doesn't let go. Because that was never really the question, was it?
There is no world in which Val lets him go.
