A Gladio/Noctis Cinderella AU:
When Clarus Amicitia dies in his duty to the crown, Gladio’s mother takes him and his sister, Iris, to the country, claiming that she is rescuing Gladio from the same fate as Noctis’ future shield. There, Gladio is isolated, left to take care of Iris while trying to mollify his mother, who is resentful of the way the Amicitias take loyalty to the crown above their personal lives and well-being.
Then, after it’s made clear that Gladio will never return to Insomnia, news gets around that the king is holding a tournament to determine who would be Prince Noctis’ future shield.
Gladio has to go, but it’s going to take a miracle to get him there.

Jing Yuan pauses at the threshold of his front doors, feeling somewhat wrongfooted in his own home and fairly resentful of it. "Could I interest you in some tea?" he recovers enough to offer politely, "I have a lovely jasmine variety that the Yuque just sent over to congratulate us on the victory."
Blade lets loose a string of colorful curses that would surely make the ears of a Zhuming native burn, but Jing Yuan only takes a seat in one of the armchairs, leaning back in a relaxed slouch and unbuckling his bracers and pauldrons, shrugging them off as he meets Blade's glare with a placid expression. "I take it you are not interested in the tea."
"Fuck the tea," Blade roars, "why are you trying to die?"
